F.A.Q.
Can I still apply if I don’t live within the boundaries?
Yes, however, there is no guarantee you will be accepted.
Who determined the boundaries?
CPS capital planning committee. The principals, teachers, or TAC, did not create the boundaries, nor do they have control over changing the boundaries. Parents with concerns or comments should contact the department of capital planning at (773) 553-3260.
What if I move into the boundary area, can my child still apply?
Yes, as long as a parent brings documented proof that the student lives in the boundaries.
What if I move out of boundary area?
The student will be transferred to the appropriate neighborhood school.
Will my child have all the core classes at each school?
Yes, each school will offer the CPS required math, science, language arts, and social studies. Additional electives and requirements will differ for each school.
Will the schools offer extracurricular activities?
Yes, all four schools will share access to sports teams and clubs. A complete list of athletic teams is located in the Athletic and Coach information section.
What happens if all the schools are full?
Once all schools reach their capacity of 385 students, enrollment will be closed. Any students remaining in the boundaries still wishing to attend the school will be put on a waiting list. If a spot opens up in the school that student may apply to transfer in from the neighborhood feeder/high school.
What happens if my student does not receive his or her first choice in schools?
Our campus staff works very hard to ensure that each student receives his or her first choice. However, it is unrealistic to expect to receive an equal number of applicants for each school. Therefore, in order to preserve heterogeneous groupings, and balance, your student may be placed in his or her 2nd, 3rd, or 4th choice. If this choice does not match your family’s educational wishes, you have the right to enroll your student in another one of the neighborhood high schools.
Can a student transfer to another one of the schools after they have been accepted?
A student may transfer to another school within the campus once enrolled by writing an essay and meeting individually with the new Principal for an interview. No transfers are guaranteed.
Will there be an R.O.T.C. program in the school?
No.
What is the dress code?
Each school has an individual dress code/ and or uniform. However, the following dress code applies to all students on the campus. No hoodies are allowed on in the building at any time (includes before and after school) Students must be covered from shoulders to their middle thighs with appropriate clothing. No undergarments on male or female students can be showing at anytime. No hats are allowed to be worn or carried at any time. No large belt buckles are allowed. All of these rules are to ensure: 1) An appropriate academic environment for students to learn in and 2) for the safety of staff and students.
What about bus transportation?
The CTA runs one special bus along Pulaski that drops off at the school entrance at 7:45 am in the morning and picks students up 10 minutes after the last bell. An additional activity bus comes to pick up students at 5:00 p.m. For specific route information please call the main office at 773-535-4300.
What are the school colors and mascot?
The school colors are officially grey and orange. Our mascot is the Phoenix. The mascot was designed and chosen by the students of the class of 2009. The Phoenix also symbolically represents the spirit of struggle and re-birth of our campus.
What is the cell phone policy?
Our campus strictly follows the Chicago Public School Universal cell phone policy: no student may have a cell phone in the school at any time unless parental permission in writing is on record. Parents must provide the school information about “special circumstances” that require a student to have a cell phone. If that letter is on record the student may give the phone to the main office in the morning and pick it up at the end of the day. There are phones in every school available for student use before, during, and after school if needed. If a student is seen with a cell phone by any staff member they have the right to remove it and parents will have to wait until Friday of that week to pick it up.
What is the mp3 policy?

Each school has a LSC: or local school council. All parents are encouraged to attend LSC meetings and run for positions at the end of each year.
