Alexis Bermudez to represent LVLHS in STATE CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP SAT
Sophomore student (SOJO) Alexis Bermudez is the first student from LVLHS to qualify for the state meet in Cross Country in school history. Alexis says he hopes to place in the top ten this Saturday. Congratulations Alexis and his coaches Ms. Nelson and Mr. Venegas on a great and historical season.

SOJO Art Teacher Tracy Van Duinen takes 2nd place in international art competition
The mural above the entrance of LVLHS was constructed by muralist and teacher Tracy Van Duinen in 2004-2005 to open our schools. Over these past six years as a founding SOJO teacher Mr. Van Duinen has added multiple installations to the LVLHS campus. We are proud to announce his newest mural "The Metaphorest" took 2nd place in the Grand Rapids ArtPrize competition. Congratulations to a great CPS teacher, CPS father, and CPS artist: Mr. V!

Phoenix Football Defeats Gage Park
On Saturday, September 10 after the fog lifted, Little Village opened the season beating Gage Park in front of a small but enthusiastic crowd. The Phoenix pounded the Gage Park’s defense 30 to 0. Senior Angel Valencia scored 2 touchdowns and run 140 yards. Carlos Cuevas had many tackles and scored a touchdown after a fumble recovery. Leonardo Sanchez contributed by intercepting a pass and scoring a 40 yard touchdown.

Football thanks all its fans for coming out to see its past game vs. Whitney Young despite the heat.
For our next game, the defense, offense and special teams will try to correct mistakes and add more points to the score board. We are looking forward to playing Gage Park next Saturday at 10:00 am at Rockne Stadium located on the corner of Central and Roosevelt. This is the first of our regular season and our players are looking forward to stat the season with a great victory.

Girl’s volleyball plays well in a win against Gage Park. The varsity record now sits at 2-3. This week we have away games Wed @ Kelvyn Park & Sat @ North Lawndale CP.
The jv team had another good week and picked up wins against Senn and Gage Park. They moved their record to 3-1 and are currently undefeated in conference play. The girls are looking forward to continue their conference dominance on Wednesday @ Kelvyn Park and Saturday @ North Lawndale.

On Saturday, September 1st, LVLHS cross country team participated in the Whitney Young Hokum Karem
Relay Race. Hokum Karems are designed to provide runners with early season competition in a fun style relay format, with each two person team running multiple legs. LVLHS was represented by 3 boy teams and 4 girl teams. Each team member ran three alternating one mile loops for a total of six miles.
